Are you managing your Business Processes?
Well, my feeling is that there is a lot of buzz about BPM, but only a little work done already.
Here's the reality check:
Are you (your company) managing BPs or no one cares about it?

Tomislav ROZMAN (Slovenia): Una conservazione sicura dei documenti digitali in ambiente sicuro: una prospettiva olistica
And now something completely different...
Tomislav ROZMAN (Slovenia): Una conservazione sicura dei documenti digitali in ambiente sicuro: una prospettiva olistica
or Safe storage of digital documents : holistic overview
What do document management and BPM have in common? Well, except of technical aspets, almost everything. Document management and safe storage is not technicl problem at all, it is a 'process and organization problem'. We can have excellent storage system, Lampertz cell, no SPOF (Single point of failure), HA (High availability) system, but if we do not have well defined process and well defined responsibilities, what's the use of it?
The article describes multi-layer design of safe storage of digital documents: from hardware to business processes. It will be presented in Trieste, 9.11.2009, on IIAS conference.

Internal process reingeneering and CRM
What I've recently found out is that BP modelling is not useful only as first phase of the BPM project and requirements gathering. It is also usefull as communication tool/language for internal work rules in organization. It is far more understandable for employees to have one A4 sheet of process model (in BPMN) sticked at their workplace as a pile of documentation.
Some time ago, we implemented new CRM process (work rules) for sales dept. and software solution (Microsoft Dynamics CRM). Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a framework, not out-of-the box solution. It can be frustrating for non-IT users, when they see all of the functionalities of the this tool. Moreover, the workflow is not defined out-of-the-box. Therefore, conceptual model of the workflow is needed. We created BPMN model of the CRM process before we started to tinker with CRM system. This idea proved successful, because we argued over the process model, not the tool, and spared some of the precious time of our programmers and CRM specialists. They've got well polished idea in a form of process model and the implementation and configuration of the Microsoft CRM went flawlessly.
If I sum it up: do BPM before CRM!

Finished BPM project...
November was a though month. We have finished with our BPM mapping project for FARMLAND AND FOREST FUND OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA
Some brief info: 10 key process areas modelled using BPMN/POEM, ~100 subprocesses, ~1000 activities, ~300 events, ~50 roles/pools, information objects and flows - hard to count them all.
Detailed article will follow soon.

How to manage CRM/ERP/BPM project?
Initiating and managing a Business Process Management project can be very complex task. Without a proper methodology it will surely fail.
To avoid missing the objective of such project, good practices should be followed:
-define goals of the BPM project (informatization, certification, optimization,...)
-acquire a commitment of the upper management
-educate (and reward) all included persons
-map the processes and gather information from the process owners by interactive workshops
-make 3 iterations of process polishing at most!
-make a project plan at the beginning!

Naslov predstavitve: Kako se v podjetju lotiti obsežnih projektov, kot so CRM, ERP, … ? S popisom poslovnih procesov seveda!
Avtor: dr.Tomislav Rozman
Kratek povzetek: Gradnje hiše se težko lotimo brez idejnega, gradbenega in izvedbenega načrta. Podobno velja za izgradnjo in vpeljavo poslovnih informacijskih sistemov v podjetje. Pred njihovo izdelavo oziroma prilagajanjem moramo zelo dobro spoznati poslovne procese v podjetju. Popis, modeliranje in analiza poslovnih procesov je eden izmed načinov izdelave 'gradbenega načrta', ki je predpogoj za informatizacijo.
